La Administración y representación del Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Geológico Mineras estará a cargo de un Ejecutivo, Agente del Presidente de la República de su libre nombramiento y remoción. Para ser designado Director Ejecutivo del Instituto se requiere ser Geólogo o Ingeniero de Minas graduado y acreditar experiencia técnica administrativa, en la orientación, organización y ejecución de programas de Investigaciones Geológico Mineras.
