La Caja Nacional de Previsión Social adscrita al Ministerio de Trabajo y Seguridad Social es un establecimiento público, esto es, un organismo dotado de personería jurídica, autonomía administrativa y patrimonio independiente, que se reorganiza conforme a las' disposiciones establecidas por la Ley 6" de 1945, los Decretos 1600 de 1945, 1050 y 3130 de 1968, 434 de 1971 y las contenidas en los presentes estatutos.
