Art. 2.° El estranjero que quiera obtener carta de naturaleza, presentará al presidente o gobernador del estado en que resida, un memorial ajustado al modelo anexo a esto decreto, bajo el número 1,° espresando en el: 1.° Su libre i espontáneo deseo de naturalizarse en los Estados Unidos de Colombia; 2.° La nación de que sea oriundo i el gobierno de que se considere súbdito; 3.° Su edad, el oficio, profesión o industria de que subsista, i el tiempo que haya residido en la república; i 4.° Su estado de casado o soltero; i en el primer caso el nombre de su mujer, i el número, nombre, edad i sexo de sus hijos, si los tuviere.
