Para conmemorar ese hecho de armas créase en la ciudad de Santander un establecimiento de instrucción secundaria, y en la de Caloto o sus inmediaciones, dentro del Municipio del mismo nombre, una Estación Agronómica para el cultivo modelo de plantas tropicales y para la enseñanza práctica de la curación y prevención de las enfermedades de dichas plantas, especialmente de las del cacao, del tabaco y de la caña de azúcar.
