º . Objeto. El Instituto de Investigación e Información Geocientífica, Minero - Ambiental y Nuclear - Ingeominas, tiene como objeto realizar la investigación y generar la información básica para el conocimiento geocientífico y aprovechamiento del subsuelo del territorio colombiano, lo cual involucra la investigación y el conocimiento de la evolución, la composición y la dinámica de la corteza terrestre, el inventario de zonas del subsuelo más favorables para la acumulación de hidrocarburos, minerales, carbones, fuentes de agua subterráneas y recursos geotérmicos, la investigación de procesos de aprovechamiento de estos recursos y de utilización de los materiales nucleares, así como la identificación y monitoreo de zonas sujetas a amenazas naturales y la evaluación de las restricciones de uso del territorio asociados a las condiciones geológicas.
