El Archivo General de la Nación podrá, de oficio o a solicitud de parte, adelantar en cualquier momento visitas de inspección a los archivos de las entidades del Estado con el fin de verificar el cumplimiento de lo dispuesto en la presente ley y sus normas reglamentarias. Advertida alguna situación irregular, requerirá a la respectiva entidad para que adelante los correctivos a que haya lugar o dará traslado, según el caso, a los órganos competentes con el fin de establecer las responsabilidades administrativas y ordenar las medidas pertinentes.
