El Instituto tendrá a su cargo la publicación y divulgación de la obra "Flora de la Real Expedición Botánica del Nuevo Reino de Granada"; la conservación y acrecentamiento de los vínculos culturales, que según convenios deben existir entre Colombia, España los demás países hispanoamericanos, y la realización de otras actividades en las áreas relacionadas con la cultura hispánica.
