El representante de los periodistas con su respectivo suplente, será elegido para un período de tres (3) años por la Junta o Consejo Directivo de la agremiación de periodistas que cuente con el mayor número de afiliados en el país y tenga legalmente reconocida su personería jurídica propia e independiente. El suplente debe pertenecer a la agremiación de periodistas que por el número de sus afiliados se encuentre en segundo lugar. En todo caso deberán acreditar su calidad de periodistas con la tarjeta profesional expedida por el Ministerio de Educación.
