La Dirección General Unidad Administrativa Especial para los Derechos Humanos del Ministerio del Interior, tiene por objeto actuar, preventivamente, en casos de amenaza inminente de los derechos humanos, desarrollar programas especiales para su protección, preservación y restablecimiento; y emprender de oficio las acciones correspondientes ante las autoridades judiciales, así como la protección de los denunciantes. Lo anterior, sin detrimento de las funciones del Ministerio Público o de otras autoridades.
