El registro de las defunciones se hará al solicitar la expedición de la boleta de inhumación, de que trata el artículo 9 de la Ley 66 de 1916, sin la cual no podrá llevarse a cabo la inhumación. Dicha boleta sólo se expedirá después de que haya sido extendida el acta respectiva en el registro del estado civil; pero en caso de imposibilidad de hacerlo así, quien expida la boleta de inhumación tomará todos los datos necesarios para asentar en el registro el acta de defunción, a la mayor brevedad.
