La Sierra "La Macarena" servirá como Reserva Biológica Natural para estudios de ciencias naturales y en ella se establecerá, como sección del Instituto de Enfermedades Tropicales "Roberto Franco", una estación de Biología que llevará el nombre del naturalista colombiano José Jerónimo Triana.
