La Nación honra a la ciudad de Caloto, en el Departamento del Cauca, por haber sido el lugar del Valle Geográfico del Cauca donde llegó por pimera vez el Libertador Simón Bolívar, en su campaña libertadora del Sur del Continente y por ser una de las seis ciudades confederadas del Valle, en la gesta emancipadora, contribuyendo con héroes y mártires a la causa de la Independencia.
