Defínese como paciente crónico psiquíatrico, el que en concepto de la Junta Médico-Quirúrgica no tiene pronóstico de mejoría y por consiguiente es innecesario que continúe su tratamiento en instituciones psiquiátricas o unidades de salud mental; sin embargo como por sus condiciones no puede ser reintegrado al núcleo familiar, su manejo se hará en entidades que dispongan de los recursos específicos para su cuidado.
