Para obtener la patente de navegación debe el dueño o su representante legal elevar la correspondiente solicitud en papel sellado a la Dirección de Marina Mercante por conducto de la Capitanía de Puerto donde el buque ha sido matriculado, incluyendo la información sobre sus especificaciones de acuerdo con los documentos que obren en el expediente sobre registro de matrículas.
