El Director de la Policía Nacional, será un Oficial General y en su defecto, un Oficial Superior de la institución de libre nombramiento y remoción del Presidente de la República. El Director General será el representante Directo del Gobierno en los negocios de Policía, y como tal responderá a través del Ministro, del mando, administración, capacidad, disciplina, conducta, conducción y empleo del Cuerpo de Policía en el territorio de la República.
