Origen . Creada mediante Decreto 2281 del 10 de noviembre de 1998, para premiar a los Oficiales, Suboficiales, Soldados y Civiles de las Fuerzas Militares que ejecuten actos personales de valor y arrojo, independientes de los resultados colectivos de una determinada unidad. Es en suma, una distinción a la calidad humana de la persona en cuanto tal. Tienen por tanto, un carácter humanista, predominante en el desarrollo de las tareas de mantenimiento y restablecimiento del orden público.
