Origen . Creada mediante Decreto 3950 del 28 de diciembre de 1950 y reglamentada por Decreto 805 del 27 de marzo de 1952, con destino a señalar y recompensar a los miembros del Ejército que se hayan destacado por sus actos de valor, disciplina, virtudes militares, servicios eminentes y compañerismo. La condecoración ostenta las categorías enunciadas en el artículo 48 del presente decreto.
