En la plaza principal de la ciudad de Marinilla, por cuenta de la Nación se eregirá una estatua a este héroe de la Patria y se colocará una placa con la siguiente leyenda: "El Congreso de Colombia a la memoria del prócer y mártir de la Independencia, doctor José Joaquín de Hoyos, 8 de julio de 1764 y 31 de agosto de 1816".
