Son atribuciones del Gran Canciller: 1ª Presidir las sesiones cuando no pueda hacerlo el Gran Maestre. 2ª Someter al Consejo las solicitudes llegadas al Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores para conceder la Condecoración o para obtener promociones dentro de la Orden. 3ª Nombrar comisiones que estudien asuntos relacionados con la Orden y distribuír los trabajos correspondientes.
