Para todos los efectos legales, el porte de un buque se medirá por toneladas; y entiéndese por tonelada colombiana la capacidad de un metro cúbico. Para los usos comunes de la navegación y del comercio, la tonelada colombiana equivale en peso a mil kilogramos.
