Al personal docente de docente que trabaje como catedrático por horas durante un año lectivo, con una intensidad no inferior a 18 horas semanales, se le tendrá en cuenta este tiempo como un año de servicio para ascenso en el escalafón. Si le número de horas es superior a 18, tal diferencia no será acumulable, pero si la intensidad horaria es menor a la indicada en presente artículo, el docente podrá acumular esté tiempo con el de otros años hasta completar 18 horas semanales para los mismos efectos indicados. El personal de tiempo completo que además trabaje como profesor externo, no podrá utilizar las horas dictadas en esta forma para su ascenso en el escalafón.
