El seguro establecido por esta Ley cubrirá las incapacidades permanentes ocasionadas en las circunstancias previstas en el artículo 1o, de acuerdo con las siguientes definiciones:

Incapacidad permanente parcial, cuando el funcionario, o empleado, sufra disminución parcial definitiva de su capacidad laboral.

Incapacidad permanente total, cuando el funcionario, o empleado queda definitivamente inhabilitado para el ejercicio de sus funciones jurisdiccionales.

Gran invalidez, cuando el funcionario o empleado, no sólo ha perdido definitivamente su capacidad laboral, sino que no pueda realizar por sí mismo funciones esenciales.
