Origen y Categorías. La Medalla por Tiempo de Servicio creada mediante Decreto 1040 de 1929 y reglamentada por los Decretos números 1898 de 1949, 805 de 1952, 1925 de 1969, 1880 de 1988 y 1396 de 1989; como reconocimiento al tiempo de servicio continuo o discontinuo como Oficial, Suboficial, Soldado o Infante de Marina Profesional de las Fuerzas Militares. Ostenta las siguientes categorías:

Medalla de Quince (15) años de servicio.

Medalla de Veinte (20) años de servicio.

Medalla de Veinticinco (25) años de servicio,

Medalla de Treinta (30) años de servicio.

Medalla de Treinta y Cinco (35) años de servicio.

Medalla de Cuarenta (40) años de Servicio.
