La Nación colombiana recuerda agradecida, la ejemplar y heroica existencia de Gerardo Cándido Leguízamo Bonilla, cuya muerte ocurrió en Bogotá el 12 de abril de 1933, como consecuencia de las heridas recibidas en combate por la defensa de la patria durante el conflicto colombo-peruano, el día 29 de enero de ese mismo año.
