Corresponde al Ministerio de Educación Nacional la Dirección del Sector Educativo Nacional, bajo la orientación del Presidente de la República.

En consecuencia, el Ministerio formulará las políticas, planes, programas y objetivos, así como los criterios de planeación tendientes al cumplimiento de aquéllos, para la adecuada prestación del servicio.

Corresponde, igualmente, al Ministerio: Cuantificar y asignar recursos humanos, financieros y materiales; determinar la tecnología requerida a través del currículo y de las exigencias pedagógicas del mismo; determinar la normatividad y pautas de evaluación y control del servicio educativo.
