La Medalla Militar "Servicios Distinguidos a la Armada Nacional", fue creada mediante el artículo 139 del Decreto 1816 de 2007, para estimular al personal de la Institución y servidores públicos del Sector Defensa que sobresalgan por su dedicación y capacidad profesional, en cumplimiento de sus funciones o para aquellas personas particulares, entidades públicas o privadas que presten servicios meritorios en beneficio del desarrollo de la Armada Nacional.
