Conforme lo dispone el artículo 58 de la Constitución Política, la propiedad colectiva sobre las áreas a que se refiere esta ley, debe ser ejercida de conformidad con la función social y ecológica que le es inherente. En consecuencia, los titulares deberán cumplir las obligaciones de protección del ambiente y de los recursos naturales renovables y contribuir con las autoridades en la defensa de ese patrimonio.
