Para ser notario en los círculos de primera categoría se exige, además de los requisitos generales, en forma alternativa: 1º Ser abogado titulado y haber ejercido el cargo de notario o el de registrador de instrumentos públicos por el término no menor de cuatro años; o la judicatura o el profesorado universitario en derecho, siquiera por seis años; o la profesión por diez años a lo menos. 2º No siendo abogado, haber desempeñado con eficiencia el cargo de notario o el de registrador en un círculo de dicha categoría, por tiempo no menor de ocho años o en uno de inferior categoría siquiera por doce años.
